For over a decade and a half, Summer Slam has stood as a pillar of Maine's basketball community. Founded by former professional basketball player Nik Caner-Medley and hosted by his non-profit, Together Reaching Unity (TRU), the event's mission has always been simple yet profound: to use the game of basketball as a vehicle for positive change.
Since its inception, Summer Slam has been more than just a game—it's a free, community-wide celebration that brings together the state's most talented high school and middle school all-stars. The event provides a premier stage for young athletes to showcase their skills, offering an unforgettable platform to compete in front of packed crowds.
In 2022, Big Time Hoops officially joined forces with Nik and TRU as a co-host. Since coming on board, Summer Slam has become one of our proudest flagship events—a true labor of love that we look forward to every single year. By combining TRU’s foundational vision with Big Time’s passion for elevating Maine basketball, the event has continued to grow in both scale and impact.
What to Expect at Summer Slam
At its core, Summer Slam remains built on the principle of opportunity. By keeping this professional-level event free and open to the public, TRU and Big Time Hoops ensure that every child and fan can experience the best of Maine basketball. Its enduring legacy is a testament to what happens when organizations unite around empowering youth, fostering community, and celebrating the game.
